The starting point
Writers using the product were copying passages into a separate chat tool, waiting for a rewrite and pasting the result back by hand. The client wanted the AI inside the editor itself, so that a rewrite took one selection and one click and the document never left the page.
What we built

Rich-text editor
A TipTap editor in Next.js and Tailwind as the writing surface, with the AI action living in the editor's own toolbar.

Highlight to rewrite
Writers select a passage and ask for a rewrite. The selection, and only the selection, is what the model sees, which keeps each call small and the cost bounded.

Results in place
The OpenAI rewrite replaces the selection inside the same document, with the original a single undo away.
What it came to
A rich-text editor where AI rewrites highlighted text in place, delivered in 162 billed hours and rated 5.0 by the client. It is the smallest AI feature we have shipped and the clearest example of putting the model where the user already works.
